This volume covers various aspects of pesticide use, farmer behavior, and environmental degradation as they relate to wetland rice production. Survey results conducted in the Philippines and Thailand and bibliographic reviews are presented. It also includes selected experimental results of a research project on pesticide impacts in wetland ricefields. The project - a multidisciplinary effort that involved scientific collaboration among NRI (England), ORSTOM (France), the University of Philippines Los Banos, and IRRI - looked at the effects of pesticides on the environment and farmers'health and related economic perspectives.
